Day 01 : Delhi
Delhi sightseeing. Over the past millenniums, there has been at least 8 different cities in the site of the current Delhi. Many monuments display the intricate history of this area, reminding of the past times, such as the Mughal domination or the murder of Mahatma Gandhi... (Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, Purana Qila, Humayoun's tomb, India Gate...)
Day 02: Agra
Drive to Agra. Afternoon, visit great Mughal monuments: Sikendra Tomb, Agra Fort, Itmad-ud-Daulah, and of course, Taj Mahal.
Day 03 : Fatehpur Sikri - Jaipur
Drive to Jaipur via the former Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri. Visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Overnight in Jaipur.
Day 04 : Jaipur
Full day sightseeing in the pink city. Discover the sandstone palaces (City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh) and the fortifications of Amber. Shopping in the bazaars of the old city, a major center for handicrafts.
Day 05 : Pushkar
Journey to the laid-back oasis town of Pushkar, a Hindu pilgrimage center.
Day 06 : Pushkar
A free day to explore the bathing ghats and temples (Brahma Temple, Savitri Temple, Pap Mochani). Alternatively hike into the surrounding hills for superb views across the plains.
Day 07 : Jodhpur
Drive to Jodhpur. Full day sightseeing in Jodhpur. Tour its awesome Mehrangarh Fort, which dominates the blue city, and visit Jaswant Thada Memorial, Chamunda Devi Temple, Umaid Gardens...
Day 08 : Jaisalmer
Cross the desert to the remote fortress city of Jaisalmer.
Day 09-10 : Jaisalmer
Two days to absorb the unique atmosphere of Jaisalmer (painted havelis, Jain temples, Laxminath Temple…). Camel safari into the Thar Desert.
Day 11 : Bikaner
Drive to Bikaner, a desert outpost that was a major trading center on the old caravan route from Central Asia. The old city of Bikaner has a maze of narrow lanes and some beautifully carved havelis in red sandstone.
Day 12 : Bikaner
Visit the fabulous Junagarh Fort, which houses the Flowers Palace, Hawa Mahal, Anup Mahal… Later board the sleeper train to Chandigarh.
Day 13 : Shimla
Travel by bus to Shimla, the most famous of the hill stations since it was the summer capital of India under the British domination.
Day 14 : Shimla
Free day to enjoy the many beautiful walks in the pine clad hills that surround Shimla. You can also visit botanical gardens and the Jakhu Temple, dedicated to monkey god Hanuman.
Day 15 : Manali
Continue by bus to the hill station of Manali, one of the most scenic areas of Himachal Pradesh.
Day 16 : Manali
Full day at leisure. This area is ideal for low level treks and walks with stunning views. For example walk (20 min) to the Dhungri Temple in the middle of a beautiful forest, or visit Gadhan Tchekchokling Gompa (a Tibetan monastery).
Day 17 : Dharamsala
Travel by bus to the hill station of Dharamsala in a spectacular mountain setting.
Day 18-19 : Dharamsala - McLeod Ganj
Two full days to explore the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government in exile. Their settlement at Mcleod Ganj is a colorful example of Tibetan culture, through cafes, institutes (extensive Tibetan library) and gompas (Buddhist monasteries such as the Tsuglagkhang or the Namgyal Gompa). Shopping at the Kotwali Bazaar.
Day 20 : Amritsar
Travel by bus and train to Amritsar, the main city of Punjab, which is the center of Sikh religion.
Day 21 : Amritsar
Morning visit to the Golden Temple, exceptional Sikh temple. Evening express train to Delhi.
