Three weeks to get immerged in Himachal Pradesh. First you will cross isolated and spectacular mountains, before entering a inhabited zone where you can observe local culture of nomads, villagers and exiled Tibetans. At the end of trek take time to visit two major cities of North India: Amritsar and Delhi.
Places : Manali - Kullu Valley - Lamadung - Kali Yani Pass - Lamapar - Dalmarhi -Thamser Pass - Billing - McLeod Ganj - Dharamsala - Amristar - Delhi
Duration : 23 Days
Day 01: Delhi - Arrival in Delhi and transfer to hotel.
Day 02 : Manali
Take the dramatic morning flight to Kullu, and then continue by jeep to Manali.
Day 03 : Manali
Day at leisure for acclimatization. Explore Manali: walk (20 min) to the Dhungri Temple in the middle of a beautiful forest, or visit Gadhan Tchekchokling Gompa (a Tibetan monastery).
Day 04 : Kullu Valley
Spend an additional day in the Kullu Valley, to explore the surrounding region: tight between spectacular mountains, the valley is very peaceful.
Day 05 : Lamadung - Himalaya Moutain Trekking out of Manali to the open meadow of Lamadug.
Day 06 : Rivali- Trek to Rivali, just above the tree line.
Day 07 : Kali Yani Pass - Continue to the base camp of Kali Yani Pass.
Day 08 : Kali Yani Pass - Rest day in this spectacular natural setting at the base of the pass.
Day 09 : Donku Thach - Over Kali Yani Pass (4,725 m) to the streamside camp at Donku Thach.
Day 10 : Lamapar - Continue down valley to the shepherd camp at Lamapar.
Day 11 : Dalmarhi - Through a verdant valley with peaks all around to the camp at Dalmarhi.
Day 12 : Barabhangal - We reach our first village in 7 days, Barabhangal.
Day 13 : Barabhangal - A rest day in the fascinating medireview village of Barabhangal.
Day 14 : Thamser Pass - A steady climb to our camp at the base of Thamser Pass.
Day 15 : Pannatu - Over Thamser Pass (4,570 m) to Pannatu.
Day 16 : Palachak - Along the river and through the woods to the tiny settlement of Palachak.
Day 17 : Billing
You are now in more inhabited country and we pass several small villages on the way to the camp at the village of Billing.
Day 18 : Bir Tibetan refugee camp
Continue down to the Tibetan refugee camp at Bir, where you can visit three splendid gompas. Travel by jeep to McLeod Ganj, home of the Dalai Lama and Tibet's government-in-exile.
Day 19-20 : McLeod Ganj - Dharamsala
Two full days to explore the city. The Tibetan settlement at Mcleod Ganj is a vibrant example of their culture, through cafes, institutes (extensive Tibetan Library) and gompas (Buddhist monasteries such as the Tsuglagkhang or the Namgyal Gompa). Shopping at the colorful Kotwali Bazaar.
Day 21 : Amritsar
Travel by jeep to Amritsar, site of the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion.
Day 22 : Delhi - Early morning Express train to Delhi.
Day 23
Delhi sightseeing. Many monuments display the intricate history of this area, reminding of the past times, such as the Mughal domination or the murder of Mahatma Gandhi… (Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, Purana Qila, Humayoun's Tomb, India Gate…)
