Board a shikara and explore the valley through the meanders of rivers and lakes. An unusual and adventurous way to discover genuine Kashmir. These lakes have often been described as the "bird's watcher's paradise". Observe colorful kingfishers, woodpeckers, golden eagles, flying ducks, and wild gooses… You can also practice fishing and duck hunting during this trip.
Places : Dal Lake - Manasbal - Wular - Anchar - Nagin
Duration : 3 to 5 days
Season : from April to October
Day 01 : Srinagar - Manasbal Lake (5/6 Hrs)
The water trek starts from Dal Lake. Board a special shikara and paddle in the river Jhelum through the ancient part of Hagen, until you reach Manasbal Lake.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery: the water, surrounded by low hills and a plateau, changes color along the day. On the northern side are relics of Darogabagh, an old masonry built by Empress Nur Jahan.
Camp one or two nights at the banks of the lake.
Day 02 : Manasbal Lake - Wular Lake (9/10 Hrs)
Paddle to Wular Lake, one of the largest fresh-water lakes in Asia. The placid waters of Wular Lake are swept by a strong breeze in the afternoon; therefore it is important to cross the lake only when the water is quiet.
On your way you will pass through the city of Bandipur, which has a lively fish market and a delightfully laid out Mughal garden. The lake also offers some interesting spots: an artificial island built by King Zain-ud-Abdin, where remain ruins of temples, and a curious bubbling spring, which has long fed Kashmir folk stories.
Arrive in Watlab, where high on a hilltop stands the shrine of a Muslim mystic, Baba Shukardin. From here, the Wular stretches away as far as the eye can see, edged by picturesque villages and terraced breeze-rippled fields of paddy.
Camp one or two nights at the bank of Wular Lake.
Day 03 : Wular Lake - Nagin Lake - Srinagar
Take the river Jhelum to return to Dal Lake. You will go through Anchar Lake, which abounds in lotus and water lilies. Observe women as they pick water chestnuts, deftly navigating the weeds in flat-bottomed skiffs.
Cross Amarkhan Nallah, arrive in Nagin Lake and then Dal Lake.
